Description:

The Outremont Yard and Beaumont : Railroad Memories History Walk.

The Park Extension Historical Society presents a walking tour around the old Outremont Yard, replaced in 1985 by the Cote St-Luc yard and now under construction as the new Université de Montréal campus. Until August 27, Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 4 pm, visitors may drop by the PEHS reception centre at the corner of Beaumont and De l'Épée avenues and choose one or all five Walks, for a total of 3.5 km.
The routes show the activity around this railway subdivision, formerly animated by steam locomotive shops and freight marshalling at the junction of rail lines between the port of Montreal, Labelle, Quebec, Ottawa and Smith's Falls. The reception centre, a small "cabane" in a playground, is 10 minutes walk from the Acadie and Parc metros (site of historic Park Avenue CP Station), or 5 minutes from the #80 bus, Beaumont stop. Parking is on nearby streets south of Jean Talon Street West, between Acadie Blvd. and Park Avenue.

The promenade shows residents and Montrealers about the origins of their railways and is part of the official 375th Montreal anniversary program, sponsored by the City and and Province of Québec, as well an element of Canada's 150 retrospective. For information: (514) 271-6650 or (514) 839-9702.
