--June 22, 2015.

Calling all Heritage Lovers! In recent decades, and astonishing 20% of Canada’s built heritage has disappeared forever. Faced with the threat of more losses, various initiatives have been born.

What is heritage? How can we save it? Why do we love it and why does it matter? Come discover the importance of preserving our urban heritage during Montreal’s first heritage festival: Vivre le patrimoine!

Vivre le patrimoine! Montréal Héritage Fest’s goal is to highlight public and professional initiatives that result in the continuity, animation, appropriation, and preservation of built heritage. Unique and unexpected building re-use, restorations, traditional building techniques; each has its place!

For the first edition, we’ve decided to organize a first meeting of various passionate and involved stakeholders in the future of our built heritage. This edition will be held over three days, and filled with themed visits to rehabilitated Montreal spaces. We also hope to stimulate discussion and creativity towards the theme of appropriating urban heritage, asking the question: Why does Heritage Matter?

The festival in a few words…

Our goal is to evoke discussion about heritage conservation and make a place for change. In the long run, we hope to bring together inter-disciplinary actors and increase our mutual networks, proliferate public engagement and awareness, as well as create a Canadian association of students and young professionals interested in heritage conservation.
