Montreal's historic St. Patrick's Day Parade took place under cool but sunny skies last Sunday. Sidewalks on both sides of St. Catherine Street were absolutely thronged with spectators three or four deep for the occasion. Now in its 187th edition, the parade lasted for about three hours.

Unlike last year's parade, where a fatality marred the event, this year's parade went off without a hitch, much to the relief of organizers.

Montreal Mayor Gérald Tremblay said that he was delighted with the day. "This is what Montrealers can do when they come together," he said. "And we have the Irish community for organizing this parade."
